The Humorous Tale of a Contemporary Vampire Family

The Disallowed is not your typical vampire tale. At once comic, surreal, and philosophical, it blends satire with Thai village folklore.

Heng, a middle-aged goatherd in Chiang Rai, is living a simple life until his body betrays him. Aunty Da, the village shaman, declares his blood has “turned to water”. Soon after, a freak fall triggers an astonishing metamorphosis: Heng becomes a bat. What follows is part comedy of errors, part meditation on freedom, taboo, and desire.

A diet of blood restores him, but his cravings only grow. When he accidentally shares his condition with a neighbour, the infection spreads – yet instead of fear, the villagers embrace it. Flight, nocturnal adventure, and the breaking of old rules prove irresistible.

By its absurd conclusion – the formation of the First Vampire Republic of North Thailand – The Disallowed has overturned every expectation. This is a playful satire with bite, a philosophical comedy about the human hunger for freedom and forbidden pleasures.
