If you haven’t got a memory, get a note book!

I have been using computers since 1982. I won a 2K modem and a subscription to BT Gold four years later. That was an email system owned by UK’s British Telecom. I think that the full price was £50 p/m. I also had a Grattan’s catalogue, and I would order goods for ladies in the street using the modem. I joined the Internet in 1996. Why am I telling you all this? Well, what I am getting at is the number of connections one can rack up over time.

Too many to remember

I soon becomes too many to remember. Luckily, the computer helps out with this, but if you have a couple of computer crashes, and you replace your computer a few times, the computer’s record of where you have been over the last few years rapidly becomes incomplete. As does our own memory.

I am a writer. Writing a book is far easier than selling one, but our main sales tool, along with the book cover and our reputation, is the review. Unfortunately, reviews are even harder to get than sales. I am not talking about only good reviews either. Any review is better than nothing. I suppose it proves that someone bought and read your book even if they didn’t like it.

Trolls and pirates excepted, of course.

Book Promo

Anyway, the other night, I asked AI which the best places to promote my books are. It was a throw-away question meant to waste 15 minutes before going to bed. It mentioned a site that I had not visited for nearly ten years. I had sort of forgotten about it. I managed to get logged in, and what did I find? To my delight there were three 4-Star reviews, and four 5-Star reviews – one for each of seven books!

For those who don’t know, this is like finding a wad of £20 notes in a book you haven’t read for ages. I will be attaching those reviews to the relevant books very soon, and capitalising on them in future promotions!

Keep Records

So, all this brings me to the point of the article. Try to keep a spreadsheet record of everywhere that is important to you. Record the name of the site, its URL, the date you found it, the date you last visited it, plus your log in details. You know it makes sense 🙂.
