Alien House

A Story Of Love, Hope and Alien Intervention!

by Owen Jones

Alien House is a sci-fi fantasy novel that plays against a backdrop of real-life immigration challenges. So, if you like tales of love, resilience, and the unexpected, Alien House by Owen Jones is a novel you don’t want to miss. This unique story follows Michael, a British man navigating the difficulties of securing a UK visa for his Thai wife after living abroad for over a decade. Through Michael’s journey, Jones sheds light on issues facing thousands of mixed-nationality couples. Meanwhile he weaves in a captivating fantasy twist that keeps readers guessing.

Hardship

Michael’s journey is one of both physical and emotional hardship. Returning to his home town of Barry in South Wales, he hopes to ‘get her in from the inside’ working within the system. His dreams of reunion with his wife are continually thwarted by a harsh reality. It leaves him struggling not only with immigration red tape but also with his own mental health. The situation soon spirals into an existential crisis! Michael’s isolation leads him into an unsettling inner dialogue with his alter ego, Ralph, who pokes fun at him and criticises his competence. It becomes a haunting voice in his mind. Through this lens, Jones offers an intimate portrayal of a man wrestling with both the system and his sanity.

The story takes a surprising turn when Michael encounters a mysterious group of four individuals after a slight accident. The presumed leader of the group, Roger, and three almost identical young women invite him to their large house to recover from his minor accident. They all get on well, and so they offer to provide a place to stay and recuperate. Perhaps, even a new beginning… However, as Ralph questions their motives, readers are left wondering whether these new friends are truly benevolent. Or do they have an agenda of their own? Is Ralph’s scepticism justified, or is Michael slipping deeper into paranoia, fantasy and madness?

Alien House serves as both an exploration of immigration’s emotional toll and a gripping tale of mystery. It examines the effects of being cut off from loved ones and being adrift in one’s own country. Michael’s reluctance to seek help from his own family, whom he believes have shunned him, adds another layer of depth, portraying a complex character grappling with pride, doubt, and vulnerability.

Fantasy

In blending social issues with fantasy elements, Alien House opens up conversations on the psychological impact of family separation and the lengths people will go to stay together. Jones deftly weaves the political realities of immigration with a dreamlike narrative, where boundaries between reality and imagination blur. It’s a compelling story for anyone interested in narratives that dive below the surface, presenting real-life issues within a framework of mystery and introspection.

With Alien House, Owen Jones has crafted a unique story that speaks to readers’ hearts and minds alike. Fans of contemporary fantasy and stories with psychological depth will find this book an intriguing and thought-provoking read. So, take the plunge into Michael’s world and discover the enigmatic journey that awaits.

Owen Jones, Amazon Best-Selling Author from Barry, Wales, has lived in several countries and travelled in many more. While studying Russian in the USSR in the '70's, he hobnobbed with spies on a regular basis; in Suriname, he got caught up in the 1982 coup; and while a company director, he joined the crew of four as the galley slave to sail from Barry to Gibraltar a home-made concrete yacht, which was almost rammed by a Russian oil tanker and an American aircraft carrier.
“I am a Celt, and we are romantic”, he said when asked about his writing style, “and I firmly believe in reincarnation, Karma and Fate, so, sayings like 'Do unto another...', and 'What goes round comes around' are central to my life and reflected in my work. I write about what I see, or think I see, or dream... and, in the end it is all the same really”. He speaks seven languages and is learning Thai, since he lives in Thailand with his Thai wife of fifteen years.
His first novel, Daddy's Hobby is from the seven-part series 'Behind The Smile: The Story of Lek, a Bar Girl in Pattaya', but his largest collection is 'The Megan Series', twenty-three novelettes on the psychic development of a teenage girl, the subtitle of which, 'A Spirit Guide, A Ghost Tiger and One Scary Mother!' sums them up nicely. He has written fifty novels and novelettes, including: Dead Centre; Andropov's Cuckoo; Fate Twister; The Disallowed (a philosophical comedy); Tiger Lily of Bangkok; and A Night in Annwn (Annwn being the ancient Welsh word for Heaven). Many have been translated into foreign languages and narrated into audio books.
Owen Jones writes stories set in Wales, Spain and Thailand, where he now lives. He is a life-long Spiritualist, and this belief is interwoven, in a very realistic way, into many of his books and storylines. If you like a touch of the 'supernatural', try his books
He sums his life up thus: “Born in the Land of Song, Living in the Land of Smiles”.
