The Requested Operation Requires Elevation is a rotten error message to receive from your computer’s operating system.

I have been getting this Windows 10 error message for the last couple of days, when I try to open an attachment to an email.

It was driving me mad, and none of the explanations or fixes I found via Google were relevant or worked (in my case).

However, I have found a way around it for now.

If you get this message in W10 when trying to open an email attachment, right-click the attachment and select ‘Detach’ (so it is in Thunderbird, anyway).

You will get a warning as if you are about to commit a heinous sin, but ignore it. Mine detach to the desktop, I don’t know where yours will go.

Find the ex-attachment (search your computer by the file name) and open it as you would any other file 🙂
