Who buys The Psychic Megan Series and why?
The most misunderstood of my books by a very long way are those in The Psychic Megan Series. People, and AI, assume that they are aimed squarely at children. I don’t know why that should be, but in any case, I don’t know any children who buy books, and certainly not any of mine. In the series, Megan is 12-13 years old, but that has never meant to me that only people of that age should read those books.
In my experience, it is Spiritualist adults and disillusioned Christians, who usually buy them. However, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus and Atheists have bought and liked them too. Once they have read them, they often read them with their children so that they can talk them through the ‘difficult bits’ and answer questions. I get the impression that the contents of these Megan books does not come as a surprise to their adult readers, but these people then find it easier to express their beliefs to the children in their lives using my books.
There have been three very important (to me) occasions regarding these books:
1] a lawyer and school governess in Venezuela asked whether she could recommend using this series to teach English as her school;
2] a university lecturer in Cairo, asked if he could use the series as a teaching medium; and
3] a Chinese under-graduate asked if she could use the series as the basis of her PhD.
4] a member of the Lakota Nation (Sioux) told me how she liked to listen to the audiobook versions of these books with her twelve-year-old granddaughter, who loved them, and would then ask questions, which she would answer. It is important to note that one of the leading characters in the book is Sioux.
I was totally bowled over by these requests and revelation, and still am very proud of them, although they happened years ago.
The fact is that The Psychic Megan Series was written for people of all ages, but I chose the early teen age group, because both of my parents and I began to realise that there is more to life than what most people experience in their daily, everyday lives when we were about thirteen.
I was lucky, because when that ‘Awakening’ happened to me, I had my parents to talk to, and discuss things with. Most people have no-one, like my parents had no-one around them who had any idea of what they were talking about. The Psychic Megan Series is for those people. It exists to reassure those people that others have also experienced what they are going through – that they are not alone, and definitely not going mad.
Therefore, The Psychic Megan Series was not written for children or any other physical age group in particular. It was written for people in the early ‘Spiritual Age’ group, which can happen to children and adults alike. Some people see ‘The Truth’ early in their physical lives, while it may come to others much, much later on, but to my way of thinking, that puts all those people in the same Spiritual Age group – at the start of that age group. In that way, a thirteen-year-old, a thirty-year-old and even a seventy-year-old can have the same Spiritual Age, and, since they have just been ‘Reborn’, so to speak, they would be at a ‘young’ Spiritual Age.
To date, the first volume of the series of 24 novelettes, The Misconception, has been translated into 44 languages.
