Sumptuous Cocoa, Cinnamon & Lime Tea

From the Tea ‘n Read Room of Author Owen Jones – Where Stories Brew & Flavours Bloom!

If you enjoy a warming, health-promoting drink that also satisfies your chocolate craving 🍫, this energising infusion may become a favourite. It’s simple to prepare and packed with potential health benefits 🌿.

Ingredients (per litre):

  • 2 teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder 🍫
  • ¼ teaspoon of ground cinnamon 🌰
  • 1 kaffir lime leaf (fresh or dried) 🍃
  • 1 litre of freshly boiled water 💧

Method:

  1. Place the cocoa, cinnamon, and lime leaf into a teapot or heatproof jug 🫖.
  2. Pour over 1 litre of boiling water ♨️.
  3. Stir briefly, then cover and allow to steep for at least 10 minutes ⏱️.
  4. Strain and enjoy hot, or chill for a refreshing cold drink ❄️.

Suggested Use:

I typically drink 500 ml in the morning 🌅 and the rest in the afternoon after storing it in the fridge 🌞. It’s a gentle energiser and quite calming at the same time – ideal for a focused day of work or writing ✍️.
Between you and me, I often let my teas infuse for at least an hour, because I can’t drink anything hot ♨️.

Potential Health Benefits of Cocoa, Cinnamon & Kaffir:

🍫 Cocoa

  • Rich in flavonoids that support circulation and brain health
  • May boost mood and reduce stress hormones
  • Traditionally used to enhance vitality and mental clarity

🌿 Cinnamon

  • May help balance blood sugar levels
  • Anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties
  • Traditionally used to warm the body and stimulate circulation
  • Adds natural sweetness, reducing the need for sugar

🌿 Kaffir Lime Leaf

  • Traditionally used in Thai medicine for digestion
  • May have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects
  • Offers a bright, citrusy aroma that lifts the senses
  • Is used to fight cellulitis in southern Thailand

🌱 My Notes:
I like this tea because one) I am a chocoholic, and always have been; two) Cinnamon is one of my favourite spices, and three) Lime leaves in general, not only Kaffir Lime leaves, not only produce another of my favourite flavours, but they really do help keep my cellulitis at bay. So, what is there to dislike?

📘 Reading Tip: Something to reflect on… something Spiritual as the chocolatey Cocoa swirls over your taste buds, and the cinnamon warms your mouth. Try A Night in Annwn. Annwn is the ancient Welsh word for Heaven, and I’ll leave the rest for you to find out for yourself. Read the introduction and first chapter free here:

Note: While these ingredients are generally safe for most people, check with your healthcare provider if you are on medication or have a health condition ⚠️.
I have asked my cardiologist because I have a pacemaker, and take Warfarin and Statins, and he is happy with these infusions, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are good for you too.
